We all face challenges with perception of our body image. Sometimes we are caught up with what the media portray as the ideal body size and image. Therefore, it becomes a problem when we gain weight and feel bad or guilty about our weight gain. Well here are a few points that will probably give you a different perspective about your struggle to loose weight.
1)Why the weight gain?
Its important to understand what has caused you to gain weight. Sometimes we go through a period of stress and depression, as a result we try to overcome this period of stress by eating to feel better. This happens to everybody. Other reasons could be; constant craving of certain foods, social gatherings that offer free food, the regular habit of going out to eat fast foods with friends, or not getting any exercise.
2)How long can you keep up?
Regardless of what is causing the weight gain you need to ask yourself “how long can I keep up with this habit?” Do I need to change my eating habits? I’m I eating healthy? Is my body within a healthy BMI? I’m I happy with my body size? It is up to you to decide what type and size of body you want.
3)Are you still contemplating or want to make a change?
I think this is where it gets really hard and challenging. Regardless of what you have decided, give yourself time to work on yourself. Think about some of the things you can do to get yourself up and start doing the right thing for yourself. Even if it means reading and watching content that could motivate you to make a change in your life. If you cannot start today, may be tomorrow. If not tomorrow then keep trying. One of my inspirational speaker is Oprah Winfrey. She talkes about “understanding oneself and the path of life…” in this video, Oprah talks about the things that define our lives i.e the choices that we make for we life, finding gratitude in our life for the good things that have happened in our lives and how these things can change the perspective of our life…. I hope that this video and many others by Oprah Winfrey will inspire you to reflect on yourself and make the changes that are right for you.
4)What can I do to motivate myself to lose weight or stay healthy?
Once you have identified what causes you to gain weight, then start from there. For example if you tend to eat too much when stressed, perhaps you can have something more healthy instead of eating chocolates may be have a protein bar instead. This may be different for everyone. How about your cravings? if you eat because you crave for certain foods then…. how about if you set aside a particular day to eat that food you crave always for. For example if you crave for ice-cream may be have it on a day that you go out with friends and have it with a healthier meal. And so on…..
5)What are your goals?
At the end of the day it depends on what you want to do with yourself. Do you want to lose weight? stay healthy? stay fit? determining your health goal is very important because it will boost your body confidence and feel in control of your body image.
